The state Department of Workforce Services reported Arkansas' January unemployment rate today, indicating that while the recession can still be felt in the Natural State, the jobs situation hasn't worsened.

January's unemployment rate in Arkansas is unchanged from December at 7.6 percent, according to the report:

The report also revised downward the December unemployment rate, taking it to 7.6 percent from the 7.7 percent the department originally reported.

"Although Arkansas is still feeling the affects of the recession, our rate has only increased two-tenths of a percentage point since July 2009," Kimberly Friedman, the department's spokeswoman, said in a news release. "It is too soon to tell, however, if our unemployment rate is stabilizing."

The December revision means the state unemployment rate rose only two-tenths of a percentage point in December from November, when it stood at 7.4 percent.

Arkansas' January unemployment rate remains well below the U.S. average of 9.7 percent. Arkansas' January 2009 unemployment rate was 6.5 percent.
