Old Searcy County Jail

Six Arkansas properties have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the country’s official list of historically significant properties, according to Frances McSwain, Arkansas Historic Preservation Program director.

The newly listed properties are:

  • Century Flyer at Conway in Faulkner County, a miniature train manufactured by the National Amusement Device Company of Dayton, Ohio, around 1955
  • Arnold Springs Farmstead at Melbourne in Izard County, featuring a ca. 1857 vernacular Greek Revival house and several outbuildings
  • Walnut Street Commercial Historic District at Walnut Ridge in Lawrence County, featuring buildings dating to around 1875
  • Fargo Training School Historic District near Fargo in Monroe County, a complex of buildings that provided education opportunities to African-American children between 1949 and 1968
  • Old Searcy County Jail on Center Street at Marshall in Searcy County, a 1902 native-stone building influenced by the Romanesque style of architecture
  • Cherry Street Historic District Boundary Expansion at Helena-West Helena in Phillips County, featuring buildings dating to 1879.
