Laman Library ArtWeek '10 events begin at 7 p.m. today (May 13) with a performance by jazz group Serious Young Musicians of Ridgeroad Middle Charter School at 7 p.m. at the plaza of Laman Library in North Little Rock.

Selma Blackburn, one of three Arkansas members of the National Watercolor Society, will paint coffee-themed work from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. May 14 for the grand opening of Overdue Brew, the library's coffee shop in the main branch. Afterward, her work will be raffled off.

Author Grif Stockley, who recently received the Laman Library Writers Fellowship, will offer a exclusive reading during Literary Evening at THEA from his work-in-progress on the 1959 fire at the Negro Boys Industrial School in Wrightsville from 6-8 p.m. May 17 at the THEA Foundation.

Laman Library's Argenta Branch will hold a stanza extravaganza as part of ArtWeek. Read original writings, share your favorite poem or just enjoy a lyrical evening at Open Mic Poetry Night at 6 p.m. May 18.

Argenta Branch will host an artist demonstration during 3rd Friday Argenta Artwal by ceramics artists Helen Phillips and her daughter Laura Phillips. from 5-8 p.m. May 21.
