According to the Little Rock Fireworks Code, the possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited. To report complaints call (501) 371-4829.

The Little Rock Fire Department recommends that you not use fireworks of any kind at home. Attend only professional fireworks displays -- t's safer, cheaper, and more spectacular.

If you find unexploded fireworks, don't touch them. Contact your local fire or police department immediately. Don't let children play with fireworks of any kind.

If you live outside the corporate Little Rock city limits, these safety rules may help prevent problems during Independence Day celebrations:

  • Always read and follow fireworks label directions.
  • Use outdoors only.
  • Never give fireworks to small children; have an adult present.
  • Don't point or throw fireworks at other people or animals.
  • Don't carry fireworks in your pocket.
  • Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
  • Be cautious of lighting any fireworks during strong wind conditions.
  • Only light fireworks on a smooth, flat surface away from houses, dry grass or leaves and flammable materials. Grass is generally not suitable for any item intended to be used in an upright position.
  • Fireworks must be used only by individuals who act in a responsible manner and who are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs

And consider these suggestions from the National Council on Fireworks Safety:

  • Only persons over 12 years of age should handle sparklers of any type.
  • Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you are, don’t use them. If drought conditions mean a ban on fireworks, follow the law.
  •  Only use fireworks as intended. Don’t try to alter them or combine them.
  •  Fireworks and alcohol do not mix. Have a designated shooter,
  •  When all else fails, use common sense. Respect fireworks and sparklers as the great American tradition they are, but also respect the fact that the must be used with caution.
