The Arkansas Underground Film Festival is coming to Hot Springs Friday-Sunday.

The Malco Theatre, 817 Central Ave., Hot Springs, is the site of the second annual Arkansas Underground Film Festival through Sunday (Aug. 15).

The event will present classic and contemporary underground films along with workshops, lectures and documentaries on some of the featured filmmakers.

Admission is $7 per evening or $10 for a VIP pass for the entire three days of the festival. The VIP Pass includes admission to all films and after-party events and a discount to Sunday’s Intro to Film workshop.

Saturday (Aug. 14) will begin with a William Wegman retrospective at 2 p.m.

At 3:30 p.m. feature films by Sadie Benning and Miranda July will be shown.

A selection of modern experimental films by new artists will follow at 5 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. there will be a screening of avant-garde classics by Matthias Muller, Bruce Conner and Kenneth Anger on 16mm film (mature audiences only).

At 8 p.m. The Hart of London, a rarely seen 1970 film by Jack Chambers, will be shown on 16mm film, followed by Visions of Madness, two new shorts by absurdist filmmakers Matthew Silver of New Jersey and Mara Mattuschka of Austria. A free all-ages dance party will follow at Low Key Arts, with music and visuals by Little Rock’s DJ G-Force.

Sunday (Aug. 15) will feature an Intro to Film workshop from noon-6 p.m. at Hot Springs Documentary Film Institute next to the Malco Theatre. This workshop, taught by Andrew Busti, MFA-Film Studies, University of Colorado, will be an introduction to shooting and hand-developing super 8mm and 16mm film. Cost is $25 ($15 with an ARKUFF VIP pass).

A special selection of unusual films from the Bearded Child Film Festival will be shown at Low Key Arts at 8 p.m. Sunday to end the festival.
