Screenings of the top 10 films in the Little Rock 48 Hour Film Project will start at 7 p.m. today (Sept. 3), with an awards ceremony immediately following, at Riverdale 10 Cinema in Little Rock.

Tickets are $10 per person and will go on sale two hours before the screening.  Arriving early is recommended.

More than 100 filmmakers comprising 21 different teams competed in this year’s event, produced by the Little Rock Film Festival.

The 48 Hour Film Project challenges filmmakers to produce a short film in 48 hours based on a topic given to them at the start of the competition. The 2010 competition started at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 when event organizers announced that this year’s required elements were a character named Geoff or Georgia Cooke who is a camp counselor, a tire or wheel as a required prop, and the line of dialog “Here we go again.”

Teams were required to turn in their completed film at 7:30 p.m. Aug.22.

All entries meeting the deadline were considered for the Best Film Award judged by Ben Fry, general manager of KUAR/KLRE, David Fowlkes, producer/director of Dogtown Picture Show, and Greg Brown, screening committee member of the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and a professor at the University of Central Arkansas.

Of 20 teams that turned in films, 16 are eligible for the top prize and other awards determined by the judges. The other four are eligible for one of two Audience Awards. The winner of the Best Film prize will go on to compete in the International 48 Hour Film Project competition featuring the top city winners of more than 80 cities around the world.
