An example of Rene Hein's Traces series

An opening reception for an exhibition of paintings by local artist Rene Hein will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 17 at Ketz Gallery, 705 Main St. in North Little Rock's historic Argenta district, during Third Friday Art Walk. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

The exhibition, which will continue through Nov. 1, includes contemporary paintings from Hein's Traces series.

“Several years ago, I moved to Arkansas and began a series of drawings of objects from my backyard -- birds, tree branches, leaves, pine cones, and pine needles, " Hein said. "My interest in color and process eventually took over and the shapes have become more simplified and abstract. Over the past few years, several themes have emerged. In some of the paintings, the layering process began to suggest the Traces that are left behind as objects move through space.”

Hein will also show of her whimsical Mummy Cat paintings.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information call (501) 529-6330.
