Making a martini is science, isn't it?

Sample four summer-style martinis at Diversion Wine & Martini Bar (2611 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, 501-414-0409) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 25) for $10.

Traditional martinis, says Diversion, are gin or vodka based. The simplest recipes involve no vermouth (purists don't believe in vermouth). Pour a couple of shots of gin (or vodka) into a shaker with ice. Shake 'til your hands fall off, strain into a martini glass, garnish with a cocktail olive or onion, and you're drinking a martini.

Add a drop or two of dry vermouth and you've got a very dry martini. Add a black olive and you have a Buckeye. Some olives are stuffed with cheese, pimento, garlic, peppers, or nut. Garnishes can be olives, onions, fruits, vegetables, candy, chocolate, and so on.

The  Diversion tasting will include:

  • Moonlight Martini
  • Bubbles and Berries Martini
  • Banana Nut Bread Martini
  • The Good Life Martini

Cost is $10.
