P. Allen Smith is hosting a new 13-week program on public television.

Lifestyle expert and garden designer P. Allen Smith is debuting P. Allen Smith's Garden to Table, a new 13-episode public television program.

Arkansas Educational Television Network will air the show at 11 a.m. Saturday (April 2) then again at 9 a.m. Friday (April 8) and Sunday (April 10) on KETS, Ch. 2 in Little Rock. Other air times include 11 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Friday (April 8) on KEMV, Ch. 6 in Mountain View and KETG, Ch. 9 in Arkadelphia.

The program is in addition to P. Allen Smith's Garden Home on public television and the syndicated 30-minute show P. Allen Smith Gardens.

Inspired by his book P. Allen Smith’s Seasonal Recipes from the Garden, Allen focuses on teaching viewers how to grow produce and preparing fresh garden-inspired meals. Each episode features growing tips, recipes and decorating ideas.

“There is a natural connection between the garden and the table, and that’s what this show is all about,” Allen says. “The culture of food in America is changing. There is an emerging part of the population that is asking about their food -- where did it come from, how was it raised or grown? -- and many of them are taking that task into their own hands. I want to see these people succeed, and this show is a great way to teach them.”

Highlights of the first season of P. Allen Smith’s Garden to Table include a tour of Allen’s orchard and fruit recipes, an episode dedicated to eggs, everything you wanted to know about salad greens and how to turn even the smallest space into a mini farm, beehive included.

Allen welcomes guest chefs who are stars in the local food movement to demonstrate recipes with ingredients straight from Allen’s garden. And some of his family members stop by to share recipes.
