
Arkansas Heritage Month will begin with a commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the Civil War from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday (April 30) at the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock.
Living history performances will allow visitors to visit with citizens and politicians, drill with the militia, and play roles in the secession vote and militia muster.
Here's a schedule of events:
- 9:30 a.m. -- Firing demonstration and period weapons talk
- 10 a.m. -- Heritage Month and Civil War Sesquicentennial presentations
- 11 a.m. -- Period performance of Julius Caesar
- noon -- Debate over secession or cooperation
- 1:30 p.m. -- Meeting of the Arkansas Secession Convention
- 4 p.m. -- Airing of AETN’s CW150 program
- 5 p.m. -- Militia Ball
- 6:30 p.m. -- Encore performance of Julius Caesar
The first of the museum’s five Civil War exhibits, An Enduring Union, will open, featuring artifacts -- photographs, medals, memorabili and uniforms -- documenting the post-war Confederate and Union veteran reunions in the state. Admission is free.
