In Search of Norman Rockwell’s America, an exhibition that pairs the work of American painter Norman Rockwell with images by photojournalist Kevin Rivoli, is open at the Arkansas Arts Center through Sept. 18.
Admission is free.
The exhibition features a comparison of black and white photographs by Rivoli with original Rockwell paintings, drawings and lithographs of similar imagery. It includes Rockwell's never-before-published early painting The Golfer.
Rivoli began taking “slices of life” photographs -- images of family, community, milestones, and people enjoying simple pleasures -- 20 years ago while working as a photojournalist. It was not until many years later that he realized their similarity in mood, subject and composition to Rockwell’s work.
The companion book for the exhibit's national tour, published by Simon & Schuster and also titled In Search of Rockwell’s America, includes inspiring quotes and anecdotes about the paintings and photographs.
