Al Allen: A Retrospective will be displayed through Dec. 12 in Laman Library's exhibit hall, 2801 Orange St., in North Little Rock.

Admission is free.

Born in 1925, Allen is considered to be one of Arkansas’ premier painters of Southern realism. His interpretations of windows, sunlight and shadows on rural and urban homes in the South created a following which led throughout his lifetime and beyond. He died in 2008.

His iconic work is part of the collections of the Arkansas Arts Center, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and Stephens Inc.

The last retrospective of Allen’s work was at the Arkansas Arts Center in 1995.

The exhibition, curated by Greg Thompson of Greg Thompson Fine Art and the Laman Public Library System, will feature original works on canvas and constructions from the 1950s to 2008.
