Marathon Boy is the story of Budhia Singh, a 4-year old slum dweller who is transformed into a marathon runner. 

Marathon Boy, a documentary by Gemma Atwal, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday (Oct. 7) at Argenta Community Theater, 405 Main St., North Little Rock, as part of the Little Rock Film Festival's Argenta Film Series.

Winner of  LRFF's Arkansas Golden Rock Documentary Award and a Tribeca Film Festival official selection from HBO Documentary Films, Marathon Boy is the story of a 4-year-old from the slums of India who is trained to become India’s greatest runner. But what starts as a real Slumdog Millionaire turns into the stuff of film noir: greed, envy and broken dreams.

Director/producer Atwal, who lives in London, will be there to discuss the film.

The Argenta Film Series, which continues year-round, includes discussions on the craft of filmmaking and showcases indoor and outdoor screenings of local, national and international films.

Oct. 28: Drag Me to Hell. A special free outdoor Halloween screening in a secret location TBA via twitter and Facebook of Sam Raimi’s modern classic. A loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point.

Nov. 9: Bellflower. Offical Selection at the Sundance and SXSW film festivals, Bellflower follows two friends who spend their free time building flamethrowers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur. Director Evan Glodell will attend.

Dec. 7: Kassim the Dream. Kassim the Dream tells the powerful story of a child soldier from Uganda who was kidnapped by a rebel army and forced to commit war atrocities, and then went on to become a professional boxer in the United States. In a memorable part of the story Kassim fights world champion Jermain Taylor in Little Rock. Kassim and Taylor will participate in a Q and A following the screening.

Jan. 7: Actor, director and producer Robert Walden will show clips of his work and talk about his career on television and in the movies. He stars in the new TV Land sitcom Happily Divorced. 

Feb. 16: The Wise Kids. This vivid Southern coming-of-age drama, set in Charleston, S.C., takes place in the transitional space between high school and college when life seems to be all questions and no answers. Writer/director Stephen Cone will attend.
