Nominations of artists working in weaving, pottery, broom making, leatherworking, metalsmithing and wood carving are being sought for the annual Arkansas Living Treasure award.

The Arkansas Arts Council is seeking nominations for 2012's Arkansas Living Treasure -- an Arkansan who is outstanding in the creation of a traditional craft.

The annual designation recognizes an Arkansan who is outstanding in the creation of a traditional craft and has significantly contributed to the preservation of the art form through teaching others about the craft.

Nominations of artists who work in pottery, weaving, broom making, leatherworking, metalsmithing and wood carving are encouraged.

Deadline for nominations is Dec. 2. Nomination forms are available by clicking here or by calling (501) 324-9766.

An independent panel of professionals in the field of traditional crafts will select the recipient based on quality of work, community outreach and total contribution to the field of traditional crafts. The recipient will be honored in May during Arkansas Heritage Month.
