To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck as lawyer Atticus Finch, will be shown at Laman Library. Admission is free. 

For those who like to look ahead, here are some events coming our way in the early days of the new year.

Jan. 9: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), the first film in the Reel Classics With The Rep series in conjunction with Rep productions, will be shown at 6 p.m. at Laman Library, 2801 Orange St., North Little Rock. Before the screening of each film, members of Arkansas Repertory Theatre's artistic team will lead a brief discussion on its coming stage production of To Kill a Mockingbird (opening Jan. 27), offer behind-the-curtain insights and host an audience Q&A. Admission is free. 

Jan. 11: Tyler Perry's play The Have and the Have Nots will be performed at 7:30 p.m. at Robinson Center Music Hall, Markham and Broadway, Little Rock. Tickets are $37.50 and may be purchased at any Ticketmaster location, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000 or online by clicking here. 

Jan. 13: Live thoroughbred racing begins at 1 p.m. at Oaklawn Racing and Gaming in Hot Springs. Racing fans can wager using their smartphones this year. For info click here.
