Clint Eastwood plays a wounded Union soldier who takes advantage of the residents of a Southern girls' school in the 1971 melodrama The Beguiled.

The Beguiled, a 1971 Gothic horror drama starring Clint Eastwood as a conniving Union soldier, will be shown at 1 p.m. today (Jan. 29) at Fayetteville Public Library, 401 W. Mountain St., Fayetteville, as part of its Beyond Battlefields: Making Sense of the American Civil War series.

Admission is free.

The film, directed by Don Siegel (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Dirty Harry) concerns a young student from a crumbling Louisiana girls' school who discovers a wounded Union soldier (Eastwood). The academy takes him in and he uses the all-female situation to coolly play off each of his captors to his own advantage -- for a while.

Beyond Battlefields is sanctioned by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission. To view a calendar of Civil War-related events taking place around Arkansas click here.
