American Harvest Organic Spirit
If sustainability matters to you, consider American Harvest Organic Spirit, an organic vodka hand-crafted in small batches and distilled from organic winter wheat grown on a family-owned farm in Rigby, Ida.
A tasting, held Monday by wine and spirits wholesaler Glazer's at Cajun's Wharf, revealed that the vodka has a clean, crisp taste that makes it well suited for martinis or consumption on the rocks as well as in other mixed drinks.
Suggested retail price is $24.99 for a 750 ml bottle.
According to the company's website:
- The producers of American Harvest support sustainable agriculture by using organic materials and an organic production process.
- One-third of the monthly electrical consumption at the distillery comes from local wind generated power.
- Unused materials from the distillation process are used as cattle feed along with most of the water.
- American Harvest bottles are 100 percent recyclable and are coated and decorated with organic inks and water-soluble varnishes.
Along with using it in classic vodka drinks such as vodka tonics and bloody Marys, try making a Southern Harvest:
- 2 parts American Harvest
- 1 1/2 parts freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
- 1/4 part grenadine
Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a couple glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
