Free promotional screenings of West of Memphis, a documentary on the West Memphis Three directed by Amy Berg and produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Damien Echols and Lorri Davis, will begin at 7 p.m. today (Sept. 12) at Market Street Cinema, 1521 Merrill Drive, Little Rock.
The film, which will officially open in New York and Los Angeles Dec. 25, examines the original police investigation of the murder of three children in West Memphis in 1993. It chronicles a new investigation funded by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and others. The investigation presents new witnesses and forensic evidence about the case against Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jesse Misskelley (who were convicted of the murders and served 18 years in prison before being released last year) and investigates the operation of the Arkansas justice system.
