Green Earth Pharmacy & Wellness Center will open June 4 at 401 E. Third St. (on the ground level of the new River Market Tower condominiums) as the only LEED-certified pharmacy in the state, according to Mark Rushing at Thoma Thoma

Founder and CEO Linda Bortell says that her business is a perfect fit with other green buildings in the area "like the Clinton Library and Heifer Project.”

Green Earth’s store design features bamboo flooring, low VOC paint, a bike rack for cyclists and other energy-efficient additions. It will offer full prescription filling services, over-the-counter medications, professional grade supplements, natural beauty and eco-friendly household products and  massage therapy, and will be stocked with organic, natural and fair trade items.

The  store also plans to announce the launch of Project Take Back, which allows customers to return unused or expired medicine for environmentally responsible disposal. This program is estimated to annually keep over 700 pounds of pharmaceutical waste out of the water supply.
