How are your New Year's resolutions coming so far? It's only been a couple weeks in the new year, so there's still time to set some fitness goals.
One way to stick to a goal is running a race and in central Arkansas, there are plenty of fun ones to get into. Here are few races we recommend:
Freezin for a Reason 2K/5K/10K (Saturday, Feb 2.): Enjoy a brisk jog at the John McConnell Track at Conway High School West, 2300 Prince St., Conway, while supporting the Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation. Registration for the 2K and 5K is $25 and the 10K is $30. Registration on the day of event will be $35 for all events. Get registered by Wednesday, Jan. 16, to receive a cool T-shirt. Sign up for the race here.
Bowen 5K (Saturday, Feb. 23): Start your weekend off right with a nice 3.1-mile run, beginning at the William H. Bowen School of Law and winding through the heart of Little Rock. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Arkansas Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program (JLAP), which now provides support services for law students in the state as well as current members of the bar. Registration is $25 for students and $30 for others.
Little Rock Marathon's 5K/10K (Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3): Although the marathon and half-marathon races are sold out, there are still some open spots for the 5K fun run/walk and the 10K (6.2 miles). If you want to start small and enjoy the sights of downtown Little Rock, the 5K race is the way to go. Right now, online registration is $35 and mail-in is $40 for the 3.1-mile run/walk. For a longer race that's a little bit closer to the half-marathon distance, try the 10K. It's 6.2 miles and gives runners a chance to see some of the capital city's landmarks. Online registration is $45, while mail-in is $50. Register here.
Warrior Dash (Saturday, May 11): This 5K ultimate obstacle course is anything but easy breezy. Back for the second year in Amity, the race that benefits St. Jude's Research Hospital is a fun, but strenuous race that features a ton of intense obstacles like a military-style cargo climb and muddy trenches. Celebrate afterward with music and beer. Registration is $50 until March 13. Click here to sign up.
