American Idol judge Randy Jackson

It's always fun to watch an ultra-popular show and see a place you're from or have been.

Local residents and Razorback fans will be excited to see a local beauty queen get a big surprise at a fall football game on the latest episode of American Idol tonight.

Former Miss University of Arkansas Ann Wizer Difani’s invitation from celebrity judge Randy Jackson at a Razorback home football game last October will be featured in tonight's episode of American Idol on FOX. The show will air from 7 - 9 p.m.

Jackson traveled to Fayetteville to surprise Difani with an invitation to audition for the reality show during a presentation at halftime of the Arkansas-Kentucky football game on Oct. 13. After the presentation recognizing five past winners of the University of Arkansas pageant, including Difani, Jackson came out on a golf cart to surprise her, said Toni Bahn, director of Miss University of Arkansas.

Difani was nominated for the show by her husband, Jordan. Difani was named Miss University of Arkansas in 2008.

The U of A Athletic Department work closely with American Idol on planning the visit.

"Several members of the athletic department came together to make the surprise happen," Bahn said, "starting with several conference calls with American Idol officials and walk throughs of the venue."

Bahn has known Difani since she first competed for Miss University of Arkansas in 2007 for the first time. After competing again the next year and winning the crown, Bahn spent that year with her as director.

"[Difani] is one of the most talented people I have ever met and she is one of the sweetest, most caring individuals, too," she said. "Fans should tune in Wednesday night to see her American Idol audition in San Antonio, and hopefully the rest of the judges will love her as much as everyone at the U of A already does."
