Mountain Home natives and high school sweethearts Sarah Barbot and Dylan Edwards love their hometown, especially in the fall. So when the couple got engaged in 2010, there was no question they’d have an outdoor wedding in the scenic Ozarks.
Joanna Anderson and Tim Appleget held a down-home reception in Tim's parents' backyard in Batesville for a laid-back, Southern affair.
Natalie Toon and Travis Patton chose to host a themed wedding reception, set right in the heart of the Roaring Twenties at the Historic Rogers House in Little Rock.
Snee Patel and Kyle Dismang held their wedding at the Park on the River in Maumelle for a union of two cultures and families, a beautiful blending of East and West.
With the help of Northwest Arkansas event planning group, Junkerman & Jones, Stacey’s wintry inspiration evolved into a wedding wonderland.
Every issue, wedding photographers send us their favorite weddings from the past season in hopes of being featured in our Real Weddings section. They’re all so different and special, which makes our job of choosing the five to share with you so much harder than it seems.
This Fall/Winter issue, we decided to try something a little different. Instead of featuring all flamboyant weddings – er, extremely expensive weddings – we chose real Real Weddings.
That’s right – realistic weddings that more Arkansas brides can relate to and gain inspiration from. We looked for weddings from different regions in the state, for diversity and for cool, but attainable, décor ideas. DIY genius and lesser-known wedding venues were a plus, too!
CENTRAL ARKANSAS
Snee Patel & Kyle Dismang (July 25, 2011): We chose this wedding because we loved the bright colors of the Indian saris and décor. Also, we’d never featured a wedding (let alone seen pictures from one) at this Maumelle venue, Park on the River.
Natalie Toon & Travis Patton (Oct. 16, 2010 ): This 1920s, Gatsby-themed wedding is the greatest! What a bold choice for a theme. We loved how the attendants and even the guests dressed the part, too. And the Historic Rogers House in Little Rock fit the theme to a T.
NORTHEAST ARKANSAS
Joanna Anderson & Tim Appleget (May 29, 2010): This backyard Batesville wedding was a while back, but we loved it so much we couldn’t resist featuring the bride and groom’s unique DIYs. The couple even built the ceremony backdrop themselves, using materials from her great-grandmother’s house, which was set to be torn down.
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS
Sarah Barbot & Dylan Edwards (Oct. 2, 2010): We chose this autumn-inspired, Mountain Home wedding, because of the unique venue in Northwest Arkansas. Lydia’s Weddings in the Ozarks is perched in the mountains and offers an incredible view of Lake Norfolk, which was stunning among Sarah’s fall décor, including our favorite: a carved-pumpkin monogram.
Of course, we always spotlight at least one over-the-top, luxurious wedding, because there’s always an idea or two you can steal or make your own, and because, let’s face it, they’re just so pretty!
Stacey Miller & Brandon Feagans (Dec. 4, 2010): For this incredible winter-themed wedding, we went behind-the-scenes with the bride and her event planners, Junkerman & Jones, to get all the details on how they turned Pratt Place Barn into a snowy fantasy.
