Yes, hammers are hammering at the Museum of Discovery, as construction has begun on the major renovations that will result in a completely new super-cool MOD in 2012. But there are many events, activities and exhibits open for enjoyment during this first phase of construction.
Brand new at the museum is an exhibit featuring items gathered during the July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Earth's moon. The exhibit, on display through April 2, includes a case that was given to the state of Arkansas by President Richard Nixon. The case contains fragments ("moon rocks") from the Earth's moon. The exhibit also contains images from the Apollo 11 trip and information about the science and technology that was used for the trip. The exhibit was created by Joel Gordon, Director of Exhibits & Facilities.
Wiggle Worm Discoveries continues at 10 a.m. Tuesdays for little ones and their caregivers. Saturday Discoveries, held on the second Saturday of every month, is the best bargain in town in my opinion. Children in grades K-6 can enjoy the museum, hands-on actvities and crafts from 1-4 p.m. for $20.
Want to be a part of the MOD forever? Buy a brick! The new museum entry will have a wonderful brick paved area where your family, community group or athletic team can have its own personalized brick.
