Visitors felt like they were actually in the pool with the penguins (some of which swam close up to the windows). Often, it seemed as if the little waddlers were purposefully entertaining their guests.

Mayor Mark Stodola welcomed our new penguin neighbors to the city during the grand opening ceremony at Café Africa. The ceremony was followed by an official ribbon cutting at the entrance of the habitat.

On March 5, the Little Rock Zoo finally held the highly anticipated debut of its new penguin habitat – Laura P. Nichols Penguin Pointe. Guests of the exhibit were greeted by one of the nine South African penguins before the entered the habitat.

Children were in awe of the underwater viewing area, and the penguins seemed to gravitate to the excitement, performing dives and swimming right up to the window pane.
