Winter is the best time of year to spot bald eagles in central Arkansas.

With temps above freezing for the first time in weeks, it's time to head outside for some fresh air. The big event this weekend is Pinnacle Mountain State Park's Eagle Event 2010. This special weekend features birds-of-prey programs led by park interpreters, including bald eagle watching opportunities. For a fee, boat tours to search for bald eagles in the wild are also available on Lake Maumelle. Bundle up and bring binoculars if you can. Seating is limited and reservations are required. A fee is required for lake tours but there will be plenty of free presentations and activities at the Vistors Center all day Saturday and Sunday. For reservations or info: (501) 868-5806.

On Friday night, Little Rock Tours and the Arkansas Arts Center present a total Egyptian experience, Phantom of the Pharaoh. Bring the whole family for an exclusive private Egyptian Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre at 6:30 p.m. at the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. Be the special dinner guest of Lady Middleton, whose archeologist husband helped discover the lost treasures of Egypt. He’s back for a special homecoming dinner with you. Guests should arrive at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $49. For info: (501) 868-7287.

A new exhibit opens at the Museum of Discovery this Saturday. According to marketing director Katie McManners, "Nanotechnology — What's the Big Deal?" will make "a very complicated topic like nanotechnology accessible to younger students." This sounds like the perfect exhibit for me, as I'm hard pressed to tell you what nanotechnology is, but knowing the MOD, the hands-on exhibit will be educational and fun. It runs until April 3. For info: (501) 396-7050.

On Wednesday, Jan. 20, The Harlem Globtrotters bring their brand of basketball fun to Verizon Arena at 7 p.m.  You and your family will enjoy the high-flying show of this famous performing group as they dribble, shoot and dunk their way to laughter and fun. Your family may not own an ATV, but surely you know someone who does. And you never know when your child might find him- or herself around one. So it's very important for parents and children to know the steps to take to be safe. Mary E. Aitken, MD MPH, is offering a free seminar on ATV safety at St. James UMC on Sunday, Ja. 17 at 321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. There will be a session from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. and another from 7 - 8 p.m. For info: (501) 271-6700.

Finally, the big thing happening at our house in the next few days is the premiere of the new "iCarly" episode on Nickelodeon. Will Carly and Freddie become more than friends? OMG! Watch Monday and find out! (Thankfully, we have more than one TV!).
