In the annual Young Artists’ Production at The Rep, students put on their fall production of “Singin’ on a Star”.

Can your youngster sing, dance and act her way into the spotlight with the best of them? If so, it's time to schedule an appointment to audition for Summer Musical Theatre Intensive (SMTI), The Arkansas Repertory Theatre's prestigious and immensely popular camp for youth ages 10-23.

Beginning next Tuesday (January 15), parents can email Education@TheRep.org with your child's name, age/grade, email, phone number, mailing address and preferred audition day.

Auditions will be held March 1 & 2, with callbacks held on March 3. Candidates should come prepared with a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song (an accompanist will be provided).

Tuition for the program is $575. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to those who qualify.

For two jam-packed weeks every summer, SMTI director Nicole Capri (read our December 2011 profile on Capri here) trains kids in the art of theater through hands-on workshops and rehearsals with pro choreographers, directors, musicians, makeup artists, costume designers and more.

At the end of the two weeks, the young performers present what they've learned in a public performance on The Rep's main stage. Check out our photos of last year's presentation, "Singin' on a Star," here.
