I braved the rain and traffic last night to drive to Maumelle for a preview party at the new children's clothing store AbsoLucy. My 7-year-old daughter Emily rode with me in hopes of scoring some new duds.

The store is located at 11601 Maumelle Boulevard, just east of Walmart and in the same shopping center as Firehouse Subs. It's a sizable space for a children's clothing store, which is nice since there was a good crowd there. The space is decorated in fun, bright colors that give it a warm, cheerful feel.

Emily headed straight for the "big girl" clothes. We found a very cute brand called tea (lowercase intended). I'm wasn't familiar with the brand but am definitely a new fan. Emily chose a pair of navy boot-cut leggings and two coordinating long sleeve tops in navy, white, green and aqua. She tried the clothes on and proclaimed them "comfy." (This is a big deal, as the girl has definite issues with things being itchy and/or too tight).

Once she made her decision, we perused the little boy section, stopping to ooh and ahh over the sock monkey items (dolls, art aprons, and clothes) and feel the softness of the Ollie Baby shirts and pants. We quickly decided we'd be back for one of the truck outfits once my nephew arrives in March.

On the other side of the store, we spied lots of precious things for newborns and infants. As far as brands, Bailey Boys jumped out at me. I've always loved their things and have found them difficult to find around town. The store also carries custom-made burp cloths and blankets, custom paintings for nurseries and children's rooms and the ever-popular Swarovski crystal baby bracelets.

At the back of the store there is a play area  equipped with a doll house, TV and other toys for easy distraction. This is a great plan — entertain the kiddos while mom or dad shop!

Items are priced at about what you would expect for a children's boutique; I spent $75 plus tax for three items. I consider it a bargain since the clothes are soft, comfortable and not too trendy. I'm hoping she'll outgrow them before they wear out!

It's worth the drive if you're from Little Rock. And if you live in Maumelle, AbsoLucy is going to quickly become your go-to place for clothes and gifts. As reported here earlier, the store is celebrating is official grand opening from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Owner Marc Haynes and his team will be offering many discounts, plus there will be cake!
