TITLE : Medical Device Sales / Lead Photographer
COMPANY : Aerocare Respiratory/Lumiere Photo Artistry
I am a licensed attorney who grew bored with the confines of an office and have since made a career for myself selling respiratory medical devices. Respiratory sales has allowed me get to know all kinds of people, from amazingly skilled physicians to some of the kindest patients I have ever known. My passion for people has also led me to dive fully into my love for photography. Photographing people is something that brings me true joy.
Favorite Quote: “Strive not to be a woman of success, but a woman of value.”
Wardrobe
I love expressing myself with my wardrobe. For my day job, I always dress professionally, with a slight twist. When I practiced law, this was a bit harder. But now I am less restricted to three-piece suits. I can wear a skirt with a fun printed top, or some funky pants and a fitted blazer. When I am shooting, I always dress with the expectation that I’ll be laying in the dirt somewhere trying to get the best shots. That’s the number one rule I’ve learned about my photography style: if I’m uncomfortable while taking the shot, it will likely not be my favorite of the day.
Best business advice you ever received and who gave it: I learned my business and work ethic by example. My father recently passed away, but he and my mom are the hardest workers I have ever known. I grew up with both always working at least two jobs, and I am now inspired by their commitment to provide the best life possible for me and my sisters. As for advice, my parents never fed me lines of what they considered wisdom. They just worked harder than anyone I have ever known, which has been the example that continues to push me to this day, and the thing to which I can attribute my success.
Favorite Workplace Expression: “Don’t mind me; just go about your business.”
Why I Love This
I love the relationships I have built. Getting a glimpse of so many different personalities is my favorite thing. Life inspires my art, and I love the surprises that come along the way.
Career Goal
To always find inspiration in the people I work with. I photograph people, and I help people with respiratory needs. At the end of my life, I want people to say, “She had a true love for people.” I head to Rwanda in June to work with orphanages and women affected by genocide. I hope to give back and learn even more about how to truly love people. Maybe this isn’t so much of a career goal, but a “life goal.”
How will you know when you are successful? Happiness is success, and I am 100-percent at that point in my life. I’ve lived other places, done different jobs, and it has taken me a little while... but I have realized that happiness is a learned art you have to teach yourself. Once that lesson is learned, no person or thing can take it away.
