In conjunction with the exhibition World of the Pharaohs: Treasures of Egypt Revealed, Kathryn Bard, Ph. D., will present the lecture Seaport of the Pharaohs to the Land of Punt: Recent Excavations at Mersa/Wadi Gewasis, Egypt at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18 in the Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. before the lecture.
Bard, associate professor of archaeology at Boston University, will discuss details about her fantastic archaeological find of nautical items belonging to the first female Pharaoh, Hatshepsut. Bard will discuss the excavations at the pharaonic harbor site of Mersa/Wadi Gawasis, Egypt, by Boston University and the University of Naples l’Orientale. These excavations uncovered the remains of Middle Kingdom (ca. 2000-1770 BC) seafaring expeditions to the land of Punt, located in the Southern Red Sea.
